A woman with Down syndrome is on the mission to put an end to “downright discriminatory” abortion laws that allow up-until-birth termination in cases of “severe fetal abnormality.

While it is illegal to get an abortion after the turning point in most cases, the law permits termination up until birth in case of severe fetal abnormality.

As Crowter expressed, she feels “like crying inside” knowing that unborn babies with Down syndrome are being treated differently than the rest.

“It makes me feel that I should not be alive. I feel like crying inside,” the 24-year-old said as she opened up about the abortion laws in an interview with The Mail.

In her fight against the current legislation, Heidi is being represented by attorney Paul Conrathe who claims that allowing post-24-week abortions has a serious impact on how people with Down syndrome are perceived by society.

According to Conrathe, the abortion act is also in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights.

“It makes other people think that we should not be here. And it makes people think that we have fewer rights,” Crowter added.

“But we should have the same rights. We are still human beings. We have feelings.”

As the passionate activist added, she wants the abortion laws modified because they are “downright discrimination in the womb.”
