We really know that winter is getting harsh on us and it is really getting cold out there.
It is difficult for us to go outside even after putting on so many clothes. Guess the situation of those who don’t have winter clothes or even a roof over their head.
While people are getting off the streets and tucking into warm beds, the homeless population is finding it difficult to live on the streets. The streets are covered with white blankets of snow and in this trembling cold, where will the homeless go.
Two women from the United Kingdom carrying a heart of gold has started a new bus shelter trend. Their aim is to provide shelter to the homeless during the winters. Surprisingly, the entire community has come together to support this cause.
Joanne Vines and Sammy Barcroft started the Rucksack Project in order to help the homeless population find a shelter during the chilly winters. Finding a home was a bit difficult for them so they decided to convert a bus into a moving shelter.
They managed to find a double-decker Stagecoach bus which was put on for scrap. They bought the scrap metal bus and gave the refurbishment contract to a group of workers. It took the bus 80 workers and around $8000 to fully convert it into a mobile shelter.
The bus was installed with 12 bunk beds, a fully functional kitchen, and a lounge. After the bus was ready, the total cost pegged for the refurbishment summed around $33K.
Joanne told the local news that they are happy about things getting done the way it was planned and they are proud of the workers who managed to scrap the rust out of this old bus and convert it into a specialized mobile shelter.
In a recent survey, it was found out that the estimated population of the homeless is more than 300000. The bus will be parked outside the St. Agatha’s Church in Portsmouth and will help those in need.
