To keep the civilians safe is the duty of the police.
It appears like this is what the police department of the UK is trying to do.
In an attempt to make the houses safer, the police department of the UK has made a deal with Amazon’s video doorbell company Ring.
The company is giving out free doorbells for people to install in their houses so they are protected in better terms.
The doorbell sends an alert on the phone of the owner whenever it senses someone around the bell and starts recording too.
Police received 1,000 bells to hand out to the public and as per the deal that is ongoing; they may receive 1,000 more doorbells to give out for free.
While most of the people are in favor of the deal that ensures the safeguard of people by keeping a watch on the neighborhood, there are some critics who are not in favor too.
Policy expert of the human rights organization of Liberty, Hannah Couchman is condemning the deal. As per Hannah, the deal is going to be inappropriate.
She says that installing the doorbell will give police right for forcing you to release surveillance footage of the private property of an individual which is not right.
In against the same, the police said that the motive to install these bells is strictly to ensure the safety of the public.
They also said that in the past, several criminals were identified and caught with the help of the footage of these cameras and it is not violating the privacy of a person in any way.
The UK police are not the only one using the doorbell as in many states of USA the police have been working with the company for past two years and have caught about 4 dangerous criminals with the help of the doorbell cameras.
