Donations to Reconstruct The Notre-Dame Have Added Up to 650 Million Euros


This Monday night, everyone was in shock after the year-old church of Notre Dame came down in flames.

However, several billionaires lent a hand of help by donating several millions of dollars to reconstruct Notre Dame which went over 650 million euros in total.

Out of the several donors, the most notable ones are Salma Hayek’s billionaire husband and Bernard Arnault. Salma Hayek’s husband has donated the big amount of 100 Million Euros whereas France’s richest man, Bernard Arnault doubled that amount and donated 200 Million Euros.

Both Arnault and Pinault made their donations after President Emmanuel macron launched the appeal to rebuild the church on Monday.

The owners of the cosmetics giant, L’Oreal and the French oil giant Total were amongst the other heavyweight donors, who donated 200 million and 100 million euros respectively.

This effort of restoring the jewel of the French heritage encouraged several others to make a donation as well. High-profile French donors like Marc Ladreit de Lacharriere donated 10 million euros and construction magnates Martin and Olivier Bouygues did the same.

However, the companies and personalities who are among the largest donations want the cathedral to be restored as early as possible.

The LVMH Group even put all their teams, architectural, creative, and financial at the service of the authorities to help the intense work of restoration.

Among other firms, the US private equity investor Henry Kavis has promised a donation of $10 million while the Credit Agricole bank donated five million euros.

Air France said that they would bring in professionals who would help with the situation for free and France’s Heritage Foundation has inaugurated a ‘national collection’ on its online forum.

The president of the Ile-de-France region has offered a budget of 10 million euros to help with the emergency archdiocese and start the work. Since this restoration will require specialized craftsmen and rare materials, this budget can provide a lot of help.

It is good to see that people from all over the world are doing their bit to help the restoration of this cathedral. With the firefighters efficiently putting the fire out, they saved the two other towers.

However, they say that the 850-year-old cathedral had been going through immense reconstruction work which could be one of the reasons for the blaze.
