Officials said the U.S. citizen was carrying drugs inside her body.

The woman was reportedly trying to enter through the Dennis DeConcini Crossing in Nogales. She was driving a Nissan sedan when she was stopped for inspection.

Upon inspection of her car, a drug-sniffing dog alerted US Customs and Border Protection officers. The dog sniffed out the drugs and officers discovered she had a concealed package inside her body.

“The woman voluntarily removed two packages that contained more than half a pound of methamphetamine, worth $1,710 and approximately .16 pounds of fentanyl, worth $2,100,” the officials said.

The drugs were packed inside two condoms. It is not clear where the woman got the drugs from.

ICE does have a Homeland Security Investigations department that identifies and removes transnational crime that exploits American’s immigration and trade.

Most fentanyl smuggled to the US is about ten percent pure and enters hidden in vehicles at border crossings around San Diego and Nogales, Customs and Border Protection data revealed.

Decreasing numbers of smaller shipments with purity of up to 90 percent enter the country through packages delivered from China.

Even though 85 percent of the fentanyl from Mexico is seized at San Diego border crossings, seizures have also surged at Arizona border and other areas.
