There is no doubt that dogs love to swim.

Some of them even try to save children trying to swim in the sea thinking they were in danger. That’s just how caring dogs can be even to strangers.

But this particular pooch was paddling in the waters 220km from the shore! It was evident that the dog was exhausted and couldn’t swim any longer.

Thankfully, oil rig workers spotted him and he was saved from exhaustion and perhaps, death. Lucky, lucky pooch!

The oil rig that is part of Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production is located 220km off the coast. It is in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand and nobody would think to find much of wildlife out there except for critters swimming under the sea and occasional birds.

When a worker looked down into the water, he was shocked to see an exhausted but healthy dog looking up at him.

While rescuers were not sure how the dog ended up there, it is believed it fell off a boat and had been paddling around looking for help.

The brown aspin has been named Boonrod, which means ‘survivor.’ Boonrod was lifted to safety by a crane before he was taken to a vet.

Khon Vitisak, who helped the pooch, said: “We found [him] trying to swim toward our rig, which is about 135 miles from the shore. Thankfully, the sea was quite still because the wind was calm.

“We just saw [his] small head. But if the ripples were bigger, I think we probably wouldn’t have noticed [him] at all.”

He continued: “When we first took [him] onboard, [he] was depressed and tired from being in the water for a long time. [He] had lost [his] body water. When he gave [him] water and minerals, [his] symptoms improved.”

After 48 hours on the rig, Boonrod headed back to the mainland to see a vet. There is also no need to find a new forever home for him.

His rescuer already decided that he will adopt him if no one comes to claim the adorable pup.
