Depressed Man Tried To Take His Own Life, But Stopped When He Saw His Dog

We all know by now that dogs are incredible creatures, but did you know that they can even save a human’s life simply by chewing something up?

Byron Taylor, age 23, had worked for the emergency services as an ambulance despatch operative in the United Kingdom. He was happy on the outside: he was in a loving relationship and five dogs, including his favorite, a Welsh Bull Mastiff named Geo.

But over time, his relationship fell apart and Byron lost the person he loved. In fact, he couldn’t even afford to pay his rent, so he lost his home and most of his dogs. So he and Geo, his only remaining dog, had no choice but to stay a friend’s house in the meantime.

He stated:

“My ex-partner left me. It was very horrible. I lost everything. I couldn’t afford the rent.”

One night, after drinking a little too much and feeling particularly down about his life in general, Byron decided to hang himself. So he prepared a noose and left the room briefly to write a suicide note to his friends and family.

But then Byron heard something strange.

He came back to the room, and saw that Geo was growling and aggressively tearing up the noose that Byron had made for himself. It was as if Geo knew exactly what Byron was trying to do!

“I went downstairs, wrote the letter, went back upstairs to actually do the job but [when I] went to grab the noose, Geo had it in his mouth.”

Even though Geo was usually quite docile, he simply would not give back the chewed-up noose, no matter how many times Byron would try to take it from him. Byron was extremely moved by this, and was inspired to live, all thanks to his best friend!

“In a way, I think Geo knew what I was going to do. They have a sixth sense about this kind of thing. He knew something was up… I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for him.”

However, their story is a bit tragic. Geo was recently diagnosed with cancer. Veterinarians found a tumor in his head, and it has spread to the rest of his body.

Since he saved his owner’s life, Byron is doing all he can to do the same for Geo. He even set up an online fundraising page to raise money to cover the veterinary bills and will keep on supporting and loving Geo for as long as he can.
