We’ve all heard of the saying, Dogs are a man’s best friend.

This is probably because dogs are loyal, brave, smart, and loving.

And this particular dog shows why dogs deserve such praise.

When 17-month-old Charlotte Svilcic and her family were enjoying a nice day out in the family’s garden, their dog began acting strangely. He was being pretty aggressive with the baby girl.

The family was surprised because Khan, a large black Doberman Pinscher, is normally very gentle.
However, on this particular day, Khan started to push Charlotte around. When she didn’t budge, the Doberman grabbed her and threw her off to the side.

Then, the family saw why Khan was behaving in such odd manner.

There was a King Brown snake, the world’s third most venomous snake, nearby Charlotte and Khan.

“If I had not seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed it,” said Catherine, Charlotte’s mother. “Khan was really concentrating, he kept trying to nudge her but it wasn’t working, so he grabbed her by the back of the nappy and threw her over his shoulder more than a meter.”

Because the snake was about to strike Charlotte, Khan was trying to protect her by pushing her out of the way.
Unfortunately, the snake ended up biting Khan.

“Charlotte looked pretty shocked and Khan screamed, like he’d been stabbed,” said Catherine. “I realized quickly it was a snake and Khan had been trying to get in between her and the snake before he threw her.”

After being bitten by the snake, Khan limped inside the house and collapsed.
Fortunately, Khan was immediately given an anti-venom shot, and was able to survive.

We owe him for the rest of his life,” said Catherine.

Another surprising element to this story is that the Svilicic family adopted Khan only four days before the incident.

It turned out that Khan had been abandoned by the previous owner and left to die. Not only was he starving, but he also had broken ribs. When the Svilicics met Khan, they did not hesitate to adopt him. They wanted to give the life that he deserved.

Now, Catherine says that Khan will be getting anything he wants. “If Khan wants a gold bowl, Khan gets it,” said Catherine.
