A few countries have varying rules when it comes to implementing their lockdowns.

One of these rules is that one can only leave the house for exercise once a day. In the US, hilarity ensued when one dog decided to milk that time for all it was worth, going so far as to play dead when exercise time was up just so he could stay out longer.

The dog, whose name is Blue, used to enjoy regular walks with owner Cady McNerney, 28, but the coronavirus lockdown has severely impacted those excursions. Which is why it was so funny when he decided to throw a tantrum in protest.

Cady, from Austin, Texas, was taking the two-year-old pup for a stroll when it finally came time to head back home. But Blue had other ideas.

The wily dog decided to play dead and didn’t budge. It’s something he’s been doing since he was a puppy and Cady says her pet has FOMO: the Fear Of Missing Out but she adds that Blue’s “temper tantrums” have been more frequent ever since the lockdown.

This is likely because he can’t get out as much as he’d like, something important for Blue who was born blind and frequently goes to doggy daycare where he sees a lot of his doggy friends.

Cady went on social media to share the video of Blue playing dead and it was a hilarious scene that all of us needed. And a lot of people agreed because the video soon went viral.

Cady, a marketing manager, said: “Since he was a puppy, he has protested going home by throwing his body on the ground and playing dead. Since we’ve been in quarantine, these ‘temper tantrums’ have become more frequent, he doesn’t like quarantine.

“He has severe FOMO [fear of missing out], if he’s home and inside he might miss out on his friends walking by or some pets from strangers.

“He loves going for walks, it’s the coming home part he dislikes.”

“Even though he’s blind, he has tried to run away when I’ve dropped his lead, like when I’m getting the mail or throwing away his poop bag.

“He always ends up at the neighborhood dog park. He has memorized how to get there by himself.

“He’s a goofy guy that hasn’t met a person or pup he didn’t like.”

Here’s to hoping that Blue, and everyone else, can soon enjoy the outdoors as much as he wants.
