Dog is Left to Die on the Streets… Until a Stranger Makes a Brave Choice

Honest to Paws

A dog lived most of his life begging for food on the streets of Peru.

With no one to take care of him, he did his best to get himself food and water. In spite of his efforts, he was starving and dirty.

No one knows exactly how this dog ended up on the streets, but one thing is for sure: without any help, the dog would have certainly died there.

Seeing animals suffer without homes is difficult to observe. So often people want to intervene, but don’t have the capacity to take in an animal or the money to pay the veterinary bills. So they walk past dogs like this one, ignoring them, and hoping someone else will do something about it.

Lucky for this dog, help came and he was soon offered a loving home.

Two women, Joyci and Bianca, took the emaciated dog in and helped him heal. They fed him, loved him, and even gave him a name, Ojitos.

Little Things

Joyce and Bianca also had help from Ursula Vari, an animal advocate who helped pay for Ojitos’ medical expenses.

Vari helps many dogs living on the streets in Peru by raising money to spay, neuter, and administer antibiotics and anti-mange medications to those in need.

Vari’s enthusiasm for dogs does not stop in Peru. ““If anyone in the U.S. would consider adopting, I would be happy to ‘hand deliver’ them to the families. This is my passion and my life, and I will do anything to help these souls.”

Thanks to the help of these kind strangers, Ojitos’ transformation has been incredible. He changed drastically from the lonely, dying dog living on the streets. His fur began to grow back and he put on some weight.

Little Things

Ojitos’s new life has taught him how to love and trust humans. His story underscores the importance of not looking past an ugly dog, but offering help to animals who need it in whatever way possible. Ojitos is a real-life example of the power of love.

Not every dog or animal living on the streets is lucky enough to find people who will give it a home and nurse it back to health. If you can’t take in an animal, consider volunteering at a shelter or donating money to help pay for expensive vet bills. It takes a village to care for dogs like Ojitos.
