A 36-year-old woman from the Philippines passed away after running inside her burning house to save her puppies.
Michelle Mirasol carried three dogs out and placed them in the garden. Without thinking twice, she ran back inside the house to rescue six more puppies. But the smoke was too think and she lost consciousness while trying to save her dogs.
Five of the puppies that were in a cage next to the restroom passed away alongside their fur mom but firefighters managed to save one.
Fire marshal Publio Plotena said that the 36-year-old died of suffocation while trying to save all of her puppies.
He also said that Ms. Mirasol saved three puppies and left the pooches in the garden before running back again inside the burning home to save the other dogs still inside the cage.
The fire chief also said that the fur mom’s body was found inside the bathroom with a wet towel covering her face from the thick smoke.
He reminded residents that they shouldn’t go back inside a burning house. “Protect yourself, you only have one life.”
According to investigators, Ms. Mirasol was with her parents and child when the fire started. They all managed to escape but the fur mom went back inside to rescue her puppies.
PAWSsion Project, a Filipino animal welfare group, said: “To some, the dogs are just but properties, things. To people like Michelle, they are family. And family means no one gets left behind. You will forever be remembered to be a selfless fur-mom.
“This is so so heartbreaking. Our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family. But our highest respect goes out to you Michelle. You were with your furbabies till the very end.”
