Watch Hope The Blind And Deaf Dog Live Her Life To The Fullest!

Hope the dog is a remarkable Dachshund who was born blind and deaf due to a breeding mistake that nearly cost her everything.

As Hope’s new owner revealed, she learned of the disabled Dachshund at a shelter where the pooch was dumped off by her previous owner.

While Hope was initially put in foster care, she was looking for a new owner until Lauren Ann Kramer-Theuerkauf showed up and fell in love with her.

“My first impression of Hope was that she seemed quite brave for being blind and deaf. When her foster parents placed her in our backyard, she began trotting around in the grass,” Lauren recalled.

“If she bumped into her fence, she just backed up and kept going. Nothing slowed her down.”

As the woman added, Hope was born disabled because her breeder partnered two dappled Dachshunds, a mistake that often results in stillbirths and deformations.

While the breeder initially wanted to kill the blind and deaf pup, his wife managed to convince him to take care of her. After the breeder’s wife passed away, however, the man dropped the dog off at a shelter.

“I would describe Hope as fearless, she’s never afraid to try new things. She was the first pet in our pack to master the pet stairs,” Lauren proudly added, claiming that Hope is braver than most dogs.

“And she also opens the closet door with her nose and snuggles in the blankets inside. If Hope runs into a roadblock, like a wall, she never whimpers, she just backs up and tries again. Nothing stops Hope from living her best life.”

Despite Hope’s undying spirit, Lauren admitted she and her husband had to make some adjustments when they adopted the pooch.

“We’ve made one big adaptation to our home for Hope. We have three rescue cats, who we’ve had to move down to our furnished basement,” she said.

“When we adopted Hope we didn’t know that Dachshunds were originally bred to hunt moles. Since Hope is blind and deaf, she relies heavily on her sense of smell to guide her, so to her the cat smell like prey, and she likes to hunt them. While she has caught the cats several times, she never hurts them.”
