According to WPBN, Heather Willobee allowed her pooch to go out one night when she realized something bad had happened.

In an interview with WBPN, she said: “I could see her in the light and I knew she was coming but I also knew she wasn’t coming alone and that something big was right behind her.”

A 300-pound bear was running after the frightened pooch.

“This whole time I’m thinking, ‘This bear’s not right, this bear’s not right, but I have to save my dog,” she expressed.

She managed to get Lucky inside but she was already injured. She had to take her to the vet but the bear was blocking their way.

“Normally you can bang pots and pans or yell at them and they’ll run away but this bear was not doing that,” Willobee told WPBN.

She pressed the panic button on her truck and when the coast was clear, she ran to the lorry with her injured pup. As she placed Lucy on the passenger seat, the bear immediately came back.

“It didn’t move. It just kept eye contact; I kept eye contact and I was just like ‘I don’t have time for you, bear. I need to save my dog,’” Willobee shared.

She rushed Lucy to the vet and was told the pooch needed surgery for her injuries. She was released from the facility after a few days and is now recovering at home.
