Doctors Fighting Coronavirus In Wuhan Are Wearing Nappies As There’s No Time For Toilet Breaks


Doctors on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak in China are wearing nappies as they couldn’t go to the toilet anymore, according to reports.

The death toll jumped to 56 from 26 one day before and over 2,000 people have been infected worldwide with the deadly virus traced to a market in Wuhan city.

Healthcare workers in Wuhan are scrambling to cope with the demand.

Videos of the city’s hospitals show staff screaming, patients slumped on the floor and crowded hallways.

Exhausted doctors are wearing adult diapers so they don’t have to go to the toilet while treating patients.

Mr. Do, a Wuhan Union Hospital doctor wrote on Weibo: “We know that the protective suit we wear could be the last one we have, and we can’t afford to waste anything.”

This comes as France confirmed Europe’s first case, Malaysia reported three, and Australia confirmed four cases.

Carrie Lam, Hong Kong leader, declared a virus emergency and haled official visits to mainland China. Outbound and inbound flights and rail trips between Wuhan and Hong Kong would also be halted and schools would remain closed until February 17.

The Deputy director-general of the Civil Affairs Department in Hubei province, Hu Yinghai, made an appeal for protective suits and masks.

“We are steadily pushing forward the disease control and prevention … But right now we are facing an extremely severe public health crisis,” he said.

Vehicles carrying doctors and emergency supplies for the city of Wuhan would be exempted from tolls and also given traffic priority.

The virus has been detected in South Korea, Thailand, Nepal, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam and the United States.
