The tumor, which weighed a staggering 119 pounds (54 kilograms), was removed during a 3.5-hour operation.

The patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she did not know that a giant tumor was responsible for almost half of her total body weight and that it was growing on her ovary.

She had previously complained when her body started ballooning in size and her feet had started swelling that she found it very difficult to walk. She also had acute pain in her abdomen and experienced breathing difficulties, said the hospital in a statement.

In addition, there was no available space in her abdominal area to insert equipment via robot-assisted techniques, so doctors decided to perform a traditional operation on August 18.

Doctors said that the giant tumor would’ve caused her ovary to burst if left untreated.

Dr. Arun Prasad of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi said:  “I have not witnessed anything like this ever before during my profession – in over three decades of experience.”

“We should consider it as a miracle that the woman is recuperating well after being operated on for over 180 minutes.”

“Due to the giant tumor, the intestinal tract throughout was compressed and flattened which was putting pressure on the gut leading to the risk of rupture in the ovary,” said Prasad.

“Fortunately, the tumor was benign and the patient had no co-morbidities, which enabled a faster recovery. Post-surgery her weight dropped to 56 kilograms (123 pounds).”
