China’s Leading Doctor Warned That Another Coronavirus Outbreak In The Country Is Possible


China’s leading doctor has warned of another potential coronavirus outbreak in the country after a patient contracted the killer bug “from a person returning from abroad.

As Professor Li Lanjuan, one of the country’s top experts on COVID-19, expressed, she worries “that imported cases could trigger another large-scale epidemic in our country.”

The doctor’s warning followed shortly after authorities confirmed that a Chinese patient is believed to have gotten infected with the killer bug after being in contact with an individual who returned from abroad.

While life in Wuhan, the original epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, is gradually returning to how it used to be, Professor Li Lanjuan suggested it was critical to take the recent case seriously and prevent the disease from spreading.

“This requires us to continue to intensify our efforts and work tirelessly to prevent the coronavirus pneumonia epidemic from spreading in other cities,” the doctor said in an interview with China News.

Speaking to People’s Daily about the situation in Wuhan, the 73-year-old, who used to lead a team of health workers in the city for nearly two months, said:

“The mission in Wuhan has not been accomplished, and there are still many critical patients. Furthermore, I think the current situation in our country is very tough.

“[I am] very worried that imported cases could trigger another large-scale epidemic in our country. Can we make every effort to guard our country and prevent another epidemic from happening? This is a tough challenge.”
