According to the doctor of 23 years, he politely requested the woman to remove her veil because he couldn’t see her or hear her speaking through the niqab as she was presenting her daughter’s symptoms.

Days later, the doctor received an offensive letter from the General Medical Council (GMC) in which he was accused of discrimination.

According to the reports, the Muslim woman willingly removed her veil. After that, however, she claimed the incident made her feel “victimized and racially discriminated.”

Due to the harsh accusations that left him “deeply upset,” the GP of 23 years admitted he plans on quitting regardless of the result of the investigation.

“I feel a major injustice has taken place. This is why you are waiting so long to see your GP and doctors are leaving in droves. This country will have no doctors left if we continue to treat them in this manner. I’m deeply upset,” Dr. Wolverson expressed.

“A doctor’s quest to perform the very finest consultation for the safety of the patient has been misinterpreted in a duplicitous manner to suggest there has been an act of racism committed. I absolutely no longer want to be a doctor.”

Speaking of the incident that left him to despise his own job, the doctor added:

“I asked her ‘would you kindly remove your face veil please because it makes communication very difficult.’ Normally this issue doesn’t arise because patients automatically do so.

“One would think that any parent would be wholly supportive and grateful that a doctor was trying to safely treat their child.”

After the issue went viral, people from around the nation stood behind Wolverson’s actions and shared their outrage over GMC’s decision to place the doctor under review.

The Doctors’ Association spokesman also reached out and suggested that there are circumstances in which the “removal of a niqab or burka is necessary.”

“It is of utmost importance that the religious wishes of our patients are respected. However, evidently, there are some circumstances where removal of a niqab or burka is necessary for medical assessment and treatment,” they said.

“The GMC should consider issuing clear guidelines to protect both doctors and our patients.”
