When it comes to making sure our homes smell all fresh and clean, we are given a variety of options.

We can use candles and scented products which can contain chemicals in them or we can also use air fresheners that can also be incredibly strong for more sensitive people in your home. But there’s actually a third option we can try, an oft forgotten one — natural solutions.

While they may not be as snazzy as a nice candle or have the variety of scent options like the latest products from Febreze, there are certainly benefits from using more natural solutions. The more natural methods tend to be a lot healthier for our lungs, not containing excessive amounts of chemicals. We can also make our very own fresheners which is cost effective and can be a fun project for your inner craftsman.

You will need a small variety of items to complete this project, including an empty jar, a piece of cloth, a rubber band, some baking soda, a spoon, and an essential oil of your preferred scent! No extra tools required, as you can see it’s made from common materials that you’d have sitting in your house!

The first step is making sure that your empty jar is all clean, with no labels or anything else in it. You’re gonna want to clean it out with hot water and soap. Make sure the labels and any leftover residue is removed.

Next we are going to take the empty jar and pour baking soda into it until the jar is filled up about a quarter of the way. You don’t need to measure it and you’re fine just eye-balling it. Then take your essential oil that you selected and sprinkle around 20-25 drops.

Now stir the oil into the baking soda with your fork. Stir well and make sure the oil is all the way in the baking soda.

The last step is incredibly easy. Just place your piece of cloth on top of the jar and use the rubber band to secure it on! These can fit in any room, but always make sure they’re in a place where children and pets can’t get to them to avoid any extra mess!
