A woman in Georgia was kidnapped in December 2015. It was reported that she was taken to a parking lot and brutally attacked. During the assault, her attacker forced her into doing something horrid and disturbing. The attacker made the woman to call her boyfriend so that he could hear the whole assault as it happens.
But even though she was threatened for her life she was quick with her thinking. Instead of doing what the attacked wanted her to do, she secretly dialed 911 without alarming the attacker.
Luckily an experienced senior operator, Deonte Smith answered her call, the moment he heard the woman talking he instinctually knew what she was trying to do, and without hesitation he played along as her “boyfriend.” While he was on the call, Deonte couldn’t help but think of his own daughter, sister and mother, that this situation may happen to any of them.
As dangerous the situation was, Deonte knew he had to stay calm and professional if he was to save this woman’s life. He even had to talk to the attacker acting as “the boyfriend,” and tried persuading him into stopping the assault on the woman, all the while he was dispatching police to the scene.
Although he did a fantastic job handling the situation, he is publicly thanking the victim for staying brave and thinking quick in her life-threatening situation. Although he may think it was more than just luck that had saved the woman, a divine intervention as he put it.
You see, had the victim called 911 just a few seconds later, Deonte would have been on his break. He was also the only operator on the floor that night.
The 27 years old attacker Robert Giles was arrested by police. The police arrived at the scene and arrested him in the act of rape. He now faces rape, false imprisonment, and obstruction charges.
To those of who are curious about the voice record, the police say it too graphic to be released. “It’s horrific, sir,” officer Woodall said.
