Diversity is now making its way to the Disney Channel, thanks to ‘The Owl House’ series, which follows a teen’s journey to becoming a witch even though she doesn’t possess any magical powers.

Luz Noceda, a 14-year-old Dominican-American girl, is the first ever bisexual character to make a Disney debut on a TV show.

Luz was first shown as being attracted to boys but in the ‘Enchanting Grom Fright’ episode, the show started exploring a relationship between Luz and another female character.

The series’ creator, Dana Terrace, said in a tweet: “I was very open about my intention to put queer kids in the main cast. I’m a horrible liar so sneaking it in would’ve been hard.”

Terrace continued: “When we were greenlit I was told by certain Disney leadership that I could not represent any form of bi or gay relationship on the channel.

“I’m bi! I want to write a bi character, dammit! Luckily my stubbornness paid off, and now I am very supported by current Disney leadership.”

Terrace identifies as bisexual and pushed Disney to allow a bisexual character. She has received positive feedbacks from viewers, giving her thanks for representing the LGBTQ+ community.

She added: “Representation matters! Always fight to make what YOU want to see! As OH continues I can’t wait to explore things that are important to me and my crew. Looking forward to the next chapter.”

Alex Hirsch, the creator of Disney’s ‘Gravity Falls,’ also shared about his own experience with trying to introduce an LGBTQ character.

“Back when I made GF Disney FORBADE me from any explicit LGBTQ+ rep. Apparently “happiest place on earth” meant “straightest.”

“But as of today, thanks to @DanaTerrace & team there are explicitly queer ANIMATED MAIN CHARACTERS on DISNEY TV. Im so proud & happy to say that,” Hirsch tweeted.
