The streaming service has included Peter Pan, Dumbo, Swiss Family Robinson, and The Aristocrats in the list of banned films as they were found to have breached ‘content advisories,’ the Daily Mail reported.

Parents have been left shocked after trying to search for the movies on the platform.

“I wanted to watch Peter Pan with my daughter, but I couldn’t find it anywhere,” one frustrated parent said. “Then I realized they had all gone – they had been removed from the kids’ accounts. It was shocking.”

The 1960 movie Swiss Family Robinson has been ridiculed for its ‘brown face’ and ‘yellow face’ pirates, while The Aristocrats, which was made in 1970, has a Siamese cat called Shun Gon, whose prominent teeth and slanted eyes have been described as a caricature of East Asian people.

Dumbo, an animated film about an adorable flying elephant, has been accused of criticizing enslaved African-Americans on Southern plantations.

It is also understood that Peter Pan has been blocked as it features a Native American tribe whose members are called ‘redskins.’

The decision to remove the films from children’s accounts was made by external experts who were brought in to evaluate if the content ‘represented global audiences.’

At the beginning of the flagged movies, Disney+ shows a warning graphic that reads: “This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures.

“These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.

“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe.”
