We’re taught to never judge the book by its cover, and that we shouldn’t easily assume something about someone if we don’t know the background story.

Yet, we often hear about cases in which vicious attack against a person is made because of a wrong assumption.

Recently, a woman named Sarah Metcalfe living in York, United Kingdom, got an offensive note from an anonymous person who thought she was abusing the disabled parking spot.

Sarah was coming back from grocery shopping with her son at Tesco, a chain supermarket, when she found this note on her car.

It said, “Being fat and ugly doesn’t count as disabled (Park elsewhere).”

As you can imagine, not only was Sarah shocked, but her 13-year-old son named Jack was also horrified by note that he could not stop crying.

The person who left this note probably saw Sarah parking in a disabled spot, and thought that Sarah was just parking there because it was convenient.

What this person didn’t know was that Sarah suffers from fibromyalgia, a neurological illness that causes chronic pain all over her body.

Sarah did admit that she was still in the process of getting a disabled badge, but because she was in so much pain on this particular day, she decided to use the bays since those area does not specify that the badge is required.point 307 |

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sarah said, “Just because I’m not in a wheelchair doesn’t mean I’m not disabled.point 121 | I think the person who did this should come forward.point 164 | I just want to talk to them about what it’s like to live with a disability like this.point 238 |

I just can’t imagine how Sarah and her son must have felt to receive such offensive note on her windscreen. Although some do abuse the disabled parking spot, people should not be so quick to judge about others – since they could be easily mistaken.
