A 20-year-old disability carer has been arrested and charged for 16 offenses in relation to alleged attacks on children and adults at a care home in Sydney.
Daniel Sasulu Nuumaalii allegedly filmed himself sexually abusing disabled adults and children using his phone. He reportedly filmed himself abusing a one-year-old child while another video shows him with a four-year-old.
Nuumallii’s crimes were discovered by NSW Police as part of an investigation into drug crimes.
In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, a friend of Nuumaallii said he ‘could not believe it’ when he was informed about the charges against him.
“Being shocked by the news is truly an understatement,” he expressed. “We went through high school together and then he dropped out at the start of Year 12 in 2017, which came as quite a shock to be honest.
“After that he just went M.I.A (missing in action) and haven’t really heard from him.”
The old friend added: “I can solemnly say that his family are all just beautiful and lovely people.”
After Nuumaalii was arrested, police found 11 videos showing him filming himself assaulting two children and disabled adults.
The disgusting incidents allegedly happened between June 2019 and April this year.
Nuumallii was charged with 11 counts of recording intimate photos without consent, sexually touching a child under 10 years, producing child abuse material, possessing child abuse material, and 2 counts of common assault.
NSW Police detective chief inspector Adam Johnson told 9News: “This is a significant breach of trust. Very vulnerable members of the community who really rely on people who are put in a position to care for them.
“It is disgusting behaviour… (but) it is good police work in a really bad situation.”
