New York City restaurants are pleading with the City officials to tackle the growing rat infestation problems as more and more vermin are seen prowling around food sources as dining moves outdoors.
Following the city’s decision to move dining experiences outdoors to allow restaurants and bars to resume their business amid the pandemic, owners have been begging officials to take care of the city’s sanitation problems.
In a video by NBC New York, big rats were spotted in the Lower Manhattan area near prominent restaurants whereas one witness reported seeing several large rats run by while sitting down in the area.
According to Giacomo Romano, who owns an Italian restaurant in the neighborhood of SoHo, a rat came running over one of his customers’ shoes in a recent encounter.
“Last night, a customer had a baby rat running on his shoe and I let you just imagine his reaction,” Romano said in an interview with NBC New York.
As the restaurant owner claimed, there has been an increase in garbage and littering due to a growth in take-outs whereas rats have started coming out of Father Fagan Park and invading surrounding areas.
“There are a lot of new holes in the ground covered by the plants,” he added.
While Romano agreed with the City’s decision to move dining outdoors, he insisted that the officials should take care of the growing public health issue.
