A police detective in Pittsburgh has filed for divorce from his wife after she was spotted with another man during the US capital riot.
55-year-old Jennifer Heinl from Pennsylvania was arrested and charged with a number of federal crimes, including disorderly conduct and violent entry, after she was photographed taking part in the capital riot on January 6.
Her husband, Michael Heinl, is a member of an FBI task force and a highly regarded police detective with the Shaler Township Police Department.
Investigators allege that Officer Heinl’s wife was photographed in surveillance video speaking to Kenneth Grayon inside the Capitol Rotunda during the riot.
The FBI also alleges that Grayson and Jennifer were communicating through Facebook since November.
Their alleged conversations include plans to travel to Washington, DC, rental vehicles, and hotel accommodations.
Jennifer’s attorney, Marty Dietz, told WPXI-TV: “To make it clear, I’ve known Jennie Heinl a long time and she’s not a criminal. She’s deeply embarrassed.”
The wife reportedly told the FBI in late January that she and Grayson did not stay at the same hotel.
According to court papers, Jennifer said that she arrived in Washington DC on January 5 but left the day after She also explained that she drove to the rally alone and did not bring anyone with her.
The 55-year-old said she only met Greyson at the Eclipse as she denied entering the US Capitol building.
However, the FBI included a photo in the arrest affidavit and it says that it shows Jennifer and Grayson in the capitol.
Federal investigators claim that the photo was obtained during a search of Grayson’s iPad.
Grayson was charged for disorderly conduct impeding government business, entering or remaining in a restricted building, obstructing an official proceeding, picketing or demonstrating in the Capitol., and disruptive conduct in the Capitol building.
Michael Heinl’s boss, Shaler Police Chief Sean Frank, told Pittsburg Post-Gazette: “His wife was a part of that situation. He didn’t condone it. He didn’t ask her to go there. He wasn’t there. He was here working.”
He continued: “She’s an adult. And I don’t think he had any part in her going there.”
