As the explosive libel case that he charged against The Sun came to an end, Johnny Depp’s lawyers emphasized to the court that the actor is not a lowlife wife beater and argued that the whole situation has been staged by his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Depp’s lawyers concluded the court by maintaining the fact that the actor has done no wrong and that Heard has been using the allegations to tarnish the reputation he has created over decades.
David Sherborne, who has been defending Depp, flat out said that Depp has never hit any woman in his entire life. He went so far as to argue that the actor is not a violent character, despite a famous incident in the 1990s when he was arrested for trashing a hotel room.
Sherborne attempted to turn the tables against the actress, referring to a recording in which Heard seems to admit that she is the one who has hit Depp. In other words, Depp’s defense team argued that the real abuser in their relationship was Heard.
Characterizing the actress as someone with a complex personality, the lawyer claimed that Heard continued to bring up new allegations during the two week trial which he found to be exhausting. Sherborne argues that those claims were all lies that she coerced from those around her.
As the two former couple attack each other as being liars, Sherborne concluded that only one was telling the truth – Depp. He also emphasized that the burden of proving Depp indeed hit his wife lies on The Sun.
Depp’s team pointed out how the 2018 article left absolutely no space over whether the actor actually hit his wife, arguing that the reporters had crucial evidence.
In the end, Sherborne asked the judge and jury to consider how Depp disclosed the most intimate aspects of his personal life to argue that he wouldn’t have done so if he was lying.
