Apparently, one cannot be too careful when traveling, as one hapless airline passenger found out after his MacBook Pro’s screen got wrecked after a passenger in front of him reclined their seat.
Pat Cassiday, who hosts the daily news podcast Hard Factor, was on a Delta Airlines flight when the mishap happened. He went to social media to post his complaint with a Twitter post that showed a cracked laptop screen.
Pat wrote: “Also, this one is more of a critique than a suggestion. I really appreciate that your flight attendant came over to tell me that the passenger in front of me ‘needs to be able to recline’ and then asked him ‘if he was okay?’ as if your seat hadn’t just ruined my livelihood.”
He then asked who he could send an email to while adding: “You’ll know it’s me because the bottom of the email will read ‘sent my from iPhone’,” then followed up with a facetious question about how many SkyMiles would be equivalent to a brand new MacBook Pro.
Later, Pat updated his followers with the news that Delta had given him the equivalent of a $75 gift card along with “an explanation that you would give a six-year-old.”
Delta’s response to Pat read: “I’m sorry your laptop was broken due to another passenger reclining on your seat. It’s not fair when one person’s behavior affects another person.
“Please know that personal property damaged in-flight as a result of a passenger action is not reimbursable. We regret the inconvenience this has caused you.”
The thing is, this isn’t the first time such a mishap has occurred on a Delta flight, said a disgruntled passenger who replied to Pat’s tweet.
Jud Mackrill explained that he found himself in the same situation as Pat and added: “Person in front of me reclined and my MacBook Pro screen got caught in the angle. The person in front then gave her seat and extra push – shredding my screen.”
But in Jud’s case, he said the Delta team had been “awesome to work it out,” and that he was covered by his Apple care.
