Two Girls Finally Met Their Idol, Minnie Mouse Started Using Sign Language To Communicate With Them

Four-year-old Shaylee Mansfield and her family recently were featured as a part of Disney Parks’ “Unforgettable Stories” series.point 140 | The perky blonde is cheery and happy but is different than most little girls as she is completely deaf, just like her mother and father.point 252 |

Unfortunately when her parents were young like Shaylee, they lived in another world – things weren’t so easy for those who were living with a disability.point 136 | 1

Not many people knew how to sign or know how to befriend those with deafness. Although Shaylee attends a school where everyone can sign and she is always understood, her mother was always nervous about the idea of bringing her family to Disney and feared that her deafness would stop her from communicating with her heroes, the Disney characters.

Nevertheless, they lived in California where Disney World is located, so going there was inevitable. But when Shaylee and her little sister posed for a photo with Minnie Mouse, an unbelievable moment occurred…

Minnie started signing to Shaylee!
As her dad stood there with Shaylee’s mother, they were both shocked and overjoyed. He later explained that “it made her proud of her own language. She made that connection.” Although it was just a small gesture, it meant the world to Shaylee and her family.

Minnie is learning to sign language so she can connect with special girls and boys just like Shaylee. I am sure the world felt little brighter that day!
