One man has passed away and two of his friends have been left severely ill after traveling abroad for teeth whitening treatment.
33-year-old Richard Molloy from Northern Ireland was traveling to Turkey for a dental procedure together with his two Belfast-based friends, Aaron Callaghan and Declan Carson.
Following their teeth whitening treatment, Callaghan and Carson have reportedly fallen severely ill and ended up in a coma. Meanwhile, their friend Richard has passed away.
According to the authorities, the trio, who appeared to be “fit and healthy young lads,” collapsed in their temporary apartment shortly after taking drugs provided by their dentist during dental treatment.
While the police are working on identifying the dentist who treated the three young men from abroad, the investigators have confirmed that the cause of Molloy’s death is currently unknown, meaning that it is not clear whether the dentist’s procedure or the drugs they prescribed played a role in Richard’s death and the hospitalization of his friends.point 645 | 1
According to the reports, Molloy’s autopsy, which will provide more answers, has been arranged as the investigators continue to work on the case.
As a doctor overseeing the treatment of Carson and Callaghan also confirmed, the two young men “are no longer in life-threatening condition.”
“The condition of the Irish men who are under treatment is getting better at the moment, they are no longer in life-threatening condition,” Dr. Serkan Oncu told Turkish newspaper Sözcü.
Following the friends’ tragic trip abroad, Colin Bell of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust has been helping Molloy’s family bring the 33-year-old’s body back home.
“It’s a very difficult situation. The young fellow died out in Turkey after traveling with his two friends,” Bell said.
“I understand they had been traveling out for dental treatment, we don’t know how it happened but it ended up with Richard dying and the other two lads being seriously ill.
“At this stage, his sister has flown out and she’s been put in touch with the funeral company who are looking after Richard’s repatriation.”
