Children seem to share the universal fear of monsters hiding under the beds or in their closets.
That’s why Caitlin Burch didn’t believe her daughters right away when they told her a ‘creature’ was in their bedroom.
Burch’s children, ages 7 and 10, kept on saying there was a ‘creature’ in their bedroom.
“They used the words ‘creature’ and ‘rat,’” she told Buzzfeed News. “The 7-year-old insisted that there was something.”
Burch and her husband checked their room but found nothing.
“The 7-year-old would not sleep in her room,” Burch shared. “They sleep in their room every night, but I told her she could sleep in the guest room that night if it made her feel better.”
Thinking the creature could be a tiny mouse, they bought a few traps and set them out. After a few days, the 10-year-old rushed to her parents and said she had seen the ‘creature again.
Burch’s husband went to their bedroom to investigate. He then finally found what the children had been complaining about.
A white-faced opossum with dark ears and dark eyes had been living in the bedroom closet!
“It had crawled into one of the dresses hanging in the closet,” Burch added. “It was peeking out of the neck hole.”
The girls celebrated their triumph while their father spent the next two hours working on how to get the intruder out of the house.
“It’s very much an ‘I told you so’ moment for them,” Burch expressed.
She also took to Twitter and wrote: “Hi this possum was living in my children’s bedroom for 3 days before we believed them.”
