Jessica Egan, 31 and her husband were bubbling up with joy when they found out they were pregnant. It was the happiest news of their married life because they had struggled for a year to conceive. They had not just failed natural chances of conceiving but they also failed a chance of IVF.

The happiness could not last long for Salt Lake City, Utah resident Jessica as a blood test report at 11 weeks of her pregnancy when she was pregnant with her first child.

The test reports revealed something the parents were not willing to see. The result said that their daughter tested positive for trisomy or Down’s syndrome which causes intellectual and developmental delay in a child.

“I was completely devastated in the very moment. I was not the only one pregnant, there were 6 of my friends who had announced their pregnancies and it was a time of utter joy for all of them. But I knew the joy would not be the same for me.

The one thing that came to my mind when I saw the result was that all the other young kids are going to be accepted well except my daughter. I was scared to reveal the news to my friends and colleagues because I knew their reaction will not be as celebrating as I wish it could be.”

“With time we realized that Down’s syndrome is a common disorder and ever 1 in 800 newborn babies are born with the same. I was not afraid of the sickness anymore and I am sure that my little girl will rock the world in her own unique ways.”
