A woman has shared an unusual story on how her parents decided on her name.
It turns out that her dad had a very sly reason for choosing it.
Kristina, from Kentucky, USA, has recently shared the odd story behind her name on TikTok. She explains that her parents came up with a deal for a fair naming procedure.
If their baby were a boy, the mom would get to pick the name, whereas if the baby was female, the dad would get to choose. But her father named her after the woman he was having an affair with so that he can cover it up just in case he slipped up the wrong name.
“So I feel like most people who are named after somebody have like a cute story behind it or they’re named after somebody really special, that is not the case for me,” Kristina said.
“I was my parent’s first child and when I was born my parents had an agreement that if I was a boy my mum was going to get to name me after my grandfather, and if I was a girl my dad was going to get to name me,” she continued.
Kristina said she was born through a c-section which meant her mom was “super drugged up” afterward. So her dad took it upon himself to fill out the birth papers, naming his new daughter Kristina.
Her mom only learned of her name after her father had completed the paperwork, but had no idea who she was named after.
“Skip forward to the day that I was born my mom wound up having to have a c-section because my big a** head wouldn’t fit through the birth canal,” Kristina continued. “She was super drugged up after that and my dad filled out all of my paperwork and at last he chose to name me Kristina.”
“When my mom came to I guess she didn’t really hate the name so she just kind of went with it and you know everything was fine for a few months until my mom found out that my dad was cheating on her,” she said. “And guess what the woman’s name was Kristina.”
“So if he messed up and called her the wrong name, he could say he was talking about me.”
Kristina captioned the video: “I just hope I make my namesake proud.”
Kristina’s TikTok followers quickly agreed that her dad’s name choice was super dubious.
“That was pretty selfish, do you have a good relationship with your dad?” someone commented.
To which Kristina explained: “No, my dad left when I was three and never had any contact with me or my sisters until we were grown.”
“He went on to have more kids, he also abandoned,” she added.
At the time of this writing, Kristina’s video has gathered over 70,000 likes and went viral with thousands of people liking and sharing their thoughts in the comments.
“Wow… Just wow. Soooo… that was pretty selfish,” one user said.
“What?!?!?!?!?! Wow, that’s rough,” a second one has added.
“Wow, I would have changed your name,” a third one said.
Other TikTok users were also encouraged to share their own bizarre naming stories.
“My dad named me after a girl he had a crush on in middle school when my mum found out she stabbed him with a fork,” one user has shared.
“My dad heard a story on the radio about a girl named Lenae who was murdered,” a girl named Lenae wrote.
“I’m named after the brand of my dad’s favorite guitar… just happy he liked his Taylor more than his Telecaster,” jokes one.
“My cousin is named after his dad’s favorite drug dealer,” another one wrote.
“My mother was named after her father’s mistress too,” says another.
“I was named after a hitchhiker,” another commenter said. “My mum picked him up in Alaska and she said he had the most beautiful eyes.”
