A daughter chose to live with her father after her parents got divorced.
She always felt comfortable with her father and stepmom while growing up.
The reason was her mother who changed as a person after the divorce. She went from a happy and cheerful person to a miserable woman and this is why the daughter felt her father and stepmom provided her a stable home to grow up in.
The daughter took to Reddit to share her story as she wrote: “I could tell that she hated the fact that I preferred to live with my dad, but never verbalized her feelings.”
The mother decided not to date anyone after the divorce and remained single. The daughter couldn’t have joint birthday parties with her mother, father, and stepmom because of her mom.
Her mother would avoid her father and she never understood her behavior and resented her for it.
She wrote on Reddit: “Quite naturally, I preferred my dad’s household over my mom’s.”
However, just before her wedding when she was staying at her father’s house, she found out an ugly truth about her dad and stepmom and decided to cut them off completely.
The daughter overheard her dad and stepmom talking about how they met and fell in love with each other when her father was still married to her mother and she was pregnant.
The daughter, who was told that her dad and stepmom met after her parents’ divorce, found out they were having an affair throughout her parents’ marriage.
She wrote: “I remember my mom changing for the worse when I was in second grade. My mom always knew and she never told me.”
The daughter broke down in tears and felt guilty as she always thought her mother was being miserable for no reason and was rude to her mother so many times.
Later, she confronted her father and stepmom and banned them from attending her wedding.
She left their house and drove to her mom’s. She hugged her and they both cried.
She wrote: “I had my mom walk me down the aisle, and I made sure my dad’s family didn’t attend the wedding. I didn’t explicitly disinvite my half brother, but he stayed away from my wedding and I’m actually glad be didn’t come.”
“I don’t think I want anything to do with any of them anymore.”
After cutting off her dad and stepmom completely, the daughter was told her dad is on antidepressants and she is responsible for it by her grandmother.
The daughter took to Reddit to ask if she is responsible for her father’s condition or did she do anything wrong by confronting her father and cutting him off.
Most of the Redditors supported the daughter and told her she did the right thing as her father treated her mother horribly and he totally deserves it.
