When Kristin Russell first met Dave, she couldn’t have understood how much he was about to impact her life.
At first, he just seemed like a nice man, but what he was, turned out to be so much more than that.
Dave would play Barbies all the time with her, coach her softball teams and went to every single karate tournament. No matter what Kristin did, she always knew she could count on Dave, her stepfather, to have her back.

As Dave and Kristin’s mother were preparing to get married, Dave was forced to make a tough choice. He would either have to sell his cherished dream car, a 1973 Porsche 914 2.0L or not be able to afford the wedding of his soon-to-be wife’s dreams. Dave, of course, gave up the car.
Dave was planning to save up money and rebuild and restore the car to its formerly glory, with all of the gizmos and gadgets like flip-up headlights and even a convertible top! It was every gearhead’s dream to build a restore a car and Dave was no different.point 370 |
But when it came time to choose between Kristin and her family or the car, the car had to go.point 74 | point 74 | 1
He sold the car to go a garage which ended up gutting the car for parts. It seemed like the dream was dead.
Dave of course stands by his decision, but from time to time you can catch him reminiscing about the car and his dreams of restoring it.

After Kristin joined the military, she was desperately trying to figure out the best way for her to thank her stepdad for the huge, positive influence he had on her life. He had been there for her all the time and she knew that she needed to thank him for his incredible dedication to her family. So Kristin thought hard and then remembered the car and that he had to give it up.
Kristin then began searching and searching for a similar car. She knew she had to find it for her father. One day she ended up finding one, located all the way in Arizona. After she saw the car, she had it shipped across the country to Philadelphia where her parents lived. When she shows her father, his reaction is absolutely priceless. You can tell that he is still a gearhead at heart and loves cars.
The fact that it came from his step daughter must mean the world to him.
Sometimes there is a happy ending to a story and we couldn’t be happier that Kristin thanked her stepdad in this way. We also couldn’t be happier that someone like Dave exists, a man who is able to dedicate so much time and effort to his step daughters to be a true father figure.
