A 58-year-old woman, from New Jersey, USA, has been called an ‘old hag’ and ‘cougar’ by her friends for dating a man who is 35 years younger than her.
Marika Fernandez and her 23-year-old partner Charles Acuna met in 2019 at Marika’s gym.
Marika said: “The next day, I told him that I had a naughty dream about him. He was so flustered and couldn’t believe my words.”
Marika then found out Charles was 35 years younger than her but it didn’t stop her.
However, when Charles told her he’s not into older women and they could be just friends, Marika was left heartbroken.
But, they started going out as friends.
Marika was dating a man who was her age at the time but it was not serious. She just wanted to wow Charles but he was happy for her and the man she was dating.
She said: “I wanted to scream. We were made for each other and I wished he could see it. Then one day, Charles told me he didn’t want to hear about him anymore. I couldn’t figure out if he liked me or not.”
In June 2019, Marika and Charles went on a trip to Atlantic City to spend the weekend and Marika only booked one room so Charles could stay with her.
Marika said: “After a few cocktails, Charles looked at me in a way he’d never done before. We couldn’t resist any longer and slept with each other. In the morning, Charles did a repeat performance and I gave him my best moves.”
When they returned, Charles was not sure about their relationship because of their age gap and refused to commit to her.
Marika returned to the man she was dating at the time and started trying to make things work with him.
But, she broke up with him a few weeks later and confessed her feelings to Charles who told her he also loved her.
Marika says: “I couldn’t stop crying, I was so happy. I didn’t care how old we both were, we were soul mates.”
Since then, they have been dating but Marika’s friends warned her that Charles would leave her once he met a woman his own age.
Some even called her a ‘cougar’ and ‘old hag’ while strangers often mistook Charles for Marika’s son.
Marika said: “Months later, Charles and I went to a gig and a young woman hit on Charles right in front of me. When I interrupted, she asked if I was Charles’ mum.”
“Charles told her I was his partner and the woman laughed in my face. Then, she called me an old, ugly hag. That night I burst into tears and asked Charles if he was ready for all of this.”
Charles has now moved into Marika’s house and they are happier than ever.
Marika says she is not ashamed that she is dating a man who is 35 years younger than her as they both are totally in love and don’t care what other people think.
She said: “People can say whatever they want but, at the end of the day, I go home to a sexy, young man. I’m the luckiest woman.”
