In February 2016, a father of a new born daughter in Memphis experienced what would be ANY parent’s worst nightmare!
He shared photos of his “little fighter” who had been battling a mysterious illness on Imgur.
The illness was so severe that his daughter flatlined right before his eyes and was revived by the pediatric team at the hospital and was hooked up to a ventilator.
Initially, his daughter was admitted in the hospital for viral meningitis, and she soon became well since it was a light case. However, in the following weeks, his daughter faced another illness.
The doctors diagnosed his daughter with RSV, a serious medical condition that not many parents know of.
His daughter was also diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia, type H flu, bronchitis, and a partially collapsed right lung.
RSV is a respiratory syncytial virus, and 60 percent of infants in the United States are infected with RSV and have gone on to suffer from lower respiratory tract infections. The father emphasizes the importance of washing hands before handling infants.
He also warns us that it is important to distinguish RSV from common cold, since RSV is not caused by exposure to cold temperatures. Rather, RSV is brought on by direct contact with surfaces and through transmissions like coughing or sneezing.
A couple weeks later, the father shared updated her daughter’s status, and posted a photo of his baby girl who miraculously survived against all odds. After this near-death experience, this father is doing everything he can to spread awareness so that this does not happen to another child.
As he writes on Imgur, “RSV is no joke. I didn’t know much about it until a week ago when it almost took my daughter from me. Please make sure to wash your hands before handling little ones. And make sure to wrap them up when heading outside into the cold.”
So, let’s be sure to wash hands before handling babies, and ▼SHARE▼ this post to let your friends and family know about RSV.
