Ghana’s Famous Dancing Pallbearers Shared Message Thanking Healthcare Workers Around The World


Ghana’s popular dancing pallbearers have shared a heartfelt message thanking healthcare workers around their world for their hard work and sacrifices fighting Covid-19.

The video, shared by lead pallbearer Benjamin Aidoo, shows the famous dancing pallbearers dressed in white, complete with face masks and gloves.

One of the me, Aidoo, sits in front wearing sunglasses and a red sash, as he says: “Hello everyone, we want to thank all the doctors in the world.”

He pauses as other pallbearers behind him clap their hands.

“You are working hard and taking care of everyone,” Aidoo adds before showing a thumbs up.

As their video ends, the lead pallbearer points to the camera and laughs: “Now remember stay at home – or dance with us!”

Their 20-second video was posted on Aidoo’s Instagram and has been viewed over 61,000 times.

It was in 2017 when the pallbearers went viral after BBC Africa showed a clip showing their coffin-carrying dances.

They gained unexpected fame when the video was streamed worldwide, with the group’s great choreography included in a music video.

While the group is known as the Ghana Dancing Pallbearers on the internet, their real name is the Nana Otafriya Pallbearing and Waiting Service.

In an interview with BBC, Aidoo said that the dancing routines were implemented to add options for funeral services.

“I decided to add choreography to it so if the client comes to us, we just ask them: ‘Do you want it solemn or do you want a bit more of a display? Or maybe you want some choreography on it?’ he said. “They just ask, and we do it.”
