Any parents would tell you that one of the most difficult parts of parenting is getting their little one to go to bed at a reasonable time.

No matter how hard parents try, children never seem to be tired enough to agree that it’s bedtime.

However, for a 28-year-old man named Matthew Finch, this task is much easier.

What he did in this video below will show you an ingenious way to get your newborn to sleep: to compose your own lullaby and sing it to them.

As you can see in the video, his 11-day old daughter Ivy peacefully falls asleep as Matthew sings and plays his guitar.

What Matthew probably didn’t know when he posted it to his friend’s wall on Facebook is that this video would be shared by thousands of times by viewers who were amazed and touched by his song.

And apparently Matthew didn’t come up with the idea to write this lullaby. He only started it because one of his friends had challenged him to write a song.

So, for a few days, Matthew pulled out his guitar and started to play around. Seeing his little girl sleeping next to him made him wonder what she was dreaming, which became the base for the song.

“I like to think that Ivy helped, I was looking after her at about 11 o’clock at night and she was nodding to the bits she liked and stopped to the bits that she didn’t,” said Matthew in his interview withthe Mirror.

Titled as Ivy’s Song, the lyrics start with Matthew guessing where Ivy goes when she falls asleep.

You have to watch the video to listen to this beautiful song, but as a sneak-peak, here’s an excerpt of the lyrics.

Where will you go when you close your eyes?

Will you swim down in the sea?

Will you hide with the turtles, swim round and round in circle,

Will you bring something back for me?

Maybe I’ll go with you, explore the seven seas..
