The father reportedly sent worrying messages to his girlfriend only moments before he passed away.

He told his girlfriend that he needed to give up steroids and he had been suffering from chest pains.

A friend said that Mr. Lea had been ‘agitated’ and an inquest found that he passed away after taking cocaine and steroids.

Alan Lyford, a detective inspector from Staffordshire Police, said his team interviewed the grieving family and friend Michael Fitton, who was staying with the personal trainer on the island.

“Prior to his death he sent a text message to his girlfriend saying he needed to stop taking steroids because they might give him a heart attack,” he said.

DI Lyord continued: “Michael Fitton said he had been contacted by a neighbour on May 19, who said he had been informed by a maid at the property that Dannie had become agitated.

“That caused Mr Fitton to return home. Dannie was not there, but there was evidence that some Coca-Cola had been spilled.

“It looked like something had happened at the property.”

The detective inspector said he hadn’t received much help from the Bahamas police.

“I made attempts to liaise with the Royal Bahamas Police Force to get a report,” he told the inquest. “I made enquiries as did my supervisors and the coroner’s officer but the only information we got was a copy of the post-mortem examination report.

“They told me verbally that they had no concerns around the circumstances of the death but I wasn’t able to get any kind of investigation report.”

Cocaine and steroids were found in Mr. Lea’s system, and the cause of death was ‘sudden death in association with cocaine and anabolic steroid use.’
