Newlyweds Ali Kiman and her husband Mitch Kiman were at their wedding reception in Ashland, Kentucky when Ali’s father, Al Jones, signed a loving rendition of ‘I Loved Her First’ by Heartland.

His performance was a nod to that time in 2017 when Ali was in a serious car accident that necessitated that her jaw is wired shut while she recovered. Unable to speak, Ali, who knew sign language, tried to communicate to her family via ASL (American Sign Language), which she knew.

Unfortunately, at that time, no one else in her family knew ASL so they had to resort to writing on a whiteboard to converse.

Al said during his speech: “As all of you know Ali was in a pretty bad accident,” and then they both start to get emotional.

He then continued: “As she laid in the hospital bed, with her jaws wired shut, tubes down her throat – we had to come up with a way to communicate with her.

“Ali was pretty good at sign language, so she started signing and telling me and Jenny what she wanted, and we were just standing there guessing – didn’t have a clue.

“She would get frustrated – so we had to go to plan B – so we got a whiteboard and that’s how we communicated. But I’ve been practicing my sign language Ali, still not that good at it.”

The fact that dad Al remembered and even took the time to learn ASL just for her simply brought Ali to tears. Even Andrew Stevens, the videographer for Always Hope Creative that was recording the event, couldn’t help but get emotional.

Andrew said: “The mother of the bride told me they were planning it as a surprise.

“I teared up as I was filming it.

“It was in suspense and a lot of tears flowing.”
