One baby girl can be grateful her daddy has a cool head because he managed to deliver her even though he was nursing a broken thumb.

Rhys Darby, 28, had to act quickly after his partner Jade Brown, 24, suddenly went into labor in the middle of the night. Baby Ariana arrived so quickly that Rhys had to catch her in his right hand as he was juggling the phone and the towels.
He had to do all that with one arm as his left was in a cast after breaking his thumb in three places playing soccer.
As soon as the ambulance crew arrived, Rhys told them “I’ve done your job for you” as they cut Ariana’s umbilical cord and took mother and daughter to the hospital.
Rhys, from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, said: “I had the cast on one hand and a phone in the other – trying to deliver a baby!
“I was running around trying to find towels while the woman on the line was trying to give me instructions.
“I bent down and stuck my hand out and the baby just came out. The ambulance arrived two minutes later and they cut the umbilical cord.
“It’s funny – Jade was adamant that she didn’t want me near the business area during birth.
“I should have brought my baseball glove, then it would have been fine.
“But it was quite scary.”
Jade, who works as a receptionist, added: “I am so proud of him for delivering her – especially with a cast on his arm. He was amazing during and after the birth and he’s an amazing dad to Ariana.”
Ariana was officially born on 4:21 am on June 19. She is the couple’s first child together.
“We were lucky,” added Rhys.
“I had wanted to do the honor of cutting the umbilical cord but the paramedics said I shouldn’t, because of the situation.
“Ariana is a miracle, really.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that their crew responded to Rhys’ call.
