Jared is a mechanical engineer who is also known as The Evening Woodworker. As the name implies, he crafts things using wood in his spare time. Jared and his family live in the state of Washington. It’s a beautiful state but also prone to a lot of inclement weather.

This situation puts a damper on what outdoor activities his children can engage in so he decided to bring one of the staples of outdoor play inside the house by building an indoor wooden tree-house.

It took Jared around 8 months working during his spare evenings but he got it done. The wooden fort features unused wood donated by a neighbor, a ladder, rope bridge, and topped off with a bucket on a winch. Since his main raw material, the wood cost nothing, he only needed to spend $500 for the tools and additional materials.

Now his kids don’t need to be at the mercy of Washington state’s unpredictable weather to have some fun.

Jared said: “This was made for my children in order to give the kids something fun to spark their creativity when they were playing.

“I always wanted to build cool forts with wood as a kid but they never ended up how I had imagined.

“As a dad with a hobby of woodworking and background in engineering, I can finally build the things I always wanted to play with as a kid.

“I’m not sure I will ever feel like it’s completed because there are always new ideas that we have and the features we want to add.

“The kids love playing on it and like that it can become whatever they want it to be.

“Sometimes they start to get used to having a tree-house in their playroom and assume everybody does, but whenever friends or other kids come over, it becomes brand new to them again.”
