“Here it is close to complete. This was done just for fun. This is my backyard for my kids,” the man wrote in his post where he shared pictures of his project.

“This was not a paying project. I did it with a lot of planning and scraps hoarded over a decade knowing this was in the future list of projects.”

As the man went on to explain, the 48-foot-long dinosaur that features a swing set, a slide, a climbing wall, monkey bar handles, and a crow’s nest took him years of planning and at least $10,000 to build.

“This took years for me. $10,000 is the low end on this, but before anyone thinks that’s extreme, I know many folks whose car, boat or motorcycle habits are way more expensive. This is my hobby as it were,” Mr. Cosman explained.

Speaking of his unusual Jurassic-themed project, the father revealed it wasn’t a one-man job and admitted he received help from his family while encouraging his kids to participate in the creation as well.

From a concrete foundation that keeps the dinosaur from tipping over to a steel-reinforced structure to foam and chicken wire for shaping, the project took a lot of preparation and resources before the playground was ready for action.

As the resourceful father added in an interview with Bored Panda, he will continue working on fun projects now that the dinosaur playground has been successfully finished.

“I know a lot of DIY folks look at these things and balk. It’s too big, too expensive or impossible for them. I try to motivate people to focus on what they can do, not what they can’t. Then press themselves to just be willing to learn a new skill because they want the outcome,” Matthew concluded.
