Custodian Comforted A Student With Autism After Seeing Her Lying Down On The Floor


Esther McCool, who works at Melba Passmore Elementary in Alvin is being called ‘Angel’ after the sweet gesture that she did for an upset elementary school student who has autism.

Mrs. Esther noticed a 4th grader named Kenlee having an “exceptionally difficult morning,” and she decided to comfort her. 

Rachel Moore, a spokesperson for the Alvin Independent School District told PEOPLE magazine, Kenlee “struggles with the noise and busyness of the cafeteria,”

“That morning, she laid down on the stage and covered her head with her blanket and when Mrs. Esther, the custodian, passed through the cafeteria, she saw Kenlee and laid down to comfort her.”

The school praised the custodian sharing the picture of Mrs. Esther laying down beside Kenlee.

”Sometimes you just need to take a break! When Kenlee, a Passmore Elementary 4th grader, was having a rough day, Mrs. Esther, a custodian at the school, got on the floor with her and just held her.”

”This goes to show you that a kind word, a hug, and a little compassion are all it takes to make a huge difference in a child’s life,” Alvin Independent School District wrote on Facebook.
