There’s nothing more relaxing, or romantic, as a night swim in a private pool.

Provided that you don’t get rudely interrupted by a crocodile, that is.

CCTV footage managed to capture a crocodile attack in a private pool at the Little Kariba house in Kariba, Zimbabwe in late 2016.

In the footage, a couple can be seen enjoying a dip in the pool. For the first few seconds of the video, the woman is partially obscured by one of the folding umbrella tents. According to reports, they had just met a few hours earlier and were part of a group of 8 friends who were on holiday in the country.

Unknown to them, the pool wasn’t as private as they thought because a small crocodile can be seen slithering closer until it jumps at the woman. Far from being a knight in shining armor, the guy with her immediately jumps out of the pool and leaves the woman to her fate.

Luckily, the crocodile was only a small one and she managed to get away without suffering any serious injuries although she did get some deep cuts on her shoulder, back, and one of her elbows.point 278 |

Also fortunate for the woman, another man rushed towards the pool and tried to drive the crocodile away although when he saw that the woman was out of the pool, he immediately jumped out of the pool himself.point 170 | 1

They left the crocodile in the pool and let the authorities deal with the creature.

The crocodile is thought to be a Nile crocodile which is known for its aggressiveness and willingness to attack any sort of prey whether it be birds, fish, other reptiles, or even mammals like humans. The woman was really fortunate that she only had to deal with a small member of the species.

As for the guy who jumped out at the first opportunity, if he thought he was going to get lucky that night, then his luck just ran out (literally).
