The director of the FBI has been urged to start an immediate criminal investigation into Trump following his leaked phone call with Georgia Secretary of State.
In his phone call with Brad Raffensperger, the POTUS attempted to find a way to overturn Joe Biden’s election win by encouraging the Secretary of State to “find 11,780 votes.”
“So look. All I want to do is this – I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state,” Trump said during the phone call in which he was relying on debunked data and conspiracy theories.
“The people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry. And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.”
He also appeared to threaten Raffensperger as he warned him that he was taking a “big risk” by not trying to overturn Biden’s win in Georgia.
Now, two Democratic Representatives called for a criminal probe into the President for “soliciting election fraud.”
In their letter to Christopher Asher Wray, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Representatives Ted Lieu and Kathleen Rice wrote they believe Trump conspired to commit “a number of election crimes” as they called for a criminal probe.
“The President of the United States, in an approximately one-hour long phone call, threatened and berated Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to ‘find 11,780 votes’ to overturn the President’s defeat in the state,” the letter reads.
“Mr Trump also made a number of other statements soliciting election fraud, such as telling Mr Raffensperger: ‘And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.’
“The recording of that phone conversation has been publicly released. As Members of Congress and former prosecutors, we believe Donald Trump engaged in solicitation of, or conspiracy to commit, a number of election crimes. We ask you to open an immediate criminal investigation into the President.”
