Couple’s Champagne Engagement Photos Went Viral After Failing Horribly

A couple who were trying to imitate a champagne celebration photo which they found on Pinterest horribly failed in replicating it – and their photos are now viral on the internet.

Alyssa Snodsmith and Collin Hewett just wanted some cool engagement pics to send to their friends and family.

Last Saturday, the couple went to Greene Valley Forest Preserve in Naperville, Illinois, with their photographer friend Chandler Lefever.

The photographer had asked them to come up with some ideas for poses.

As anyone would have done, Alyssa took to the internet for inspiration and found a fun pic of a couple celebrating with champagne on Pinterest.

This photo was taken in October 2018 by photographer Brianna Bender in Bend, Oregon.

“We just thought it was fun. It kinda just matches us,” Alyssa said. “We just like to have fun.”

After reaching a nice spot, the couple recreated the scene. Collin poured some champagne into Alyssa’s mouth while their photographer friend tried to capture the moment on camera.

Unfortunately, Chandler couldn’t get the right angle in the first take. So they tried again – but this time, things didn’t go as planned.

“Well, we found the right angle, but I didn’t find the right angle with the bottle,” Collin said. “I was super hesitant the whole way and then it started to just dribble out the end. So I kind of over-adjusted.”

Unluckily for the bride-to-be, almost a quarter of the bottle came gushing out all over her – and the photo was anything but romantic.

“We were dying laughing,” Alyssa said. “Our photographer fell on his butt because he was laughing so hard. He managed to still snap pictures of us!”

“I was prepared to be in the dog house,” Collin added.

Thankfully, Alyssa had packed another outfit, so their shoot continued.

“Before I changed into my second outfit, we just took some pictures of us walking from behind so you couldn’t see my front was covered in champagne,” she said.

When the couple saw their photos of the day after Chandler had edited them, they were literally hysterical.

“I think I laughed for about 30 minutes straight,” Collin said.

Collin shared the pictures on social media after his friends urged him to do so – and they went viral in no time, racking up hundreds of thousands of likes from people across the globe.

Many people said that the photos were a perfect take on the expectation vs. reality meme.

Alyssa said the reason their photos became so popular is that they show the couple just how they are. “People don’t know us and I think it’s cool that just by those two pictures, it kinda captures us,” she said.

Brianna Bender, who captured the original photo, later revealed to BuzzFeed News that the original couple also struggled a lot to get it right.

“I think he just poured it very slowly and carefully,” Brianna said. “He spilled it on her a little bit, too, but it’s not in the photo. It’s not as perfect as it looks!”
