Darren Steels and his partner were confused to see their double socket not working since they moved into their Nottingham home in July 2017.

He said that their socket is in the kitchen near the stairs, they tried to plug their hoover into the socket but it had never worked since they bought the property. It was frustrating for them and after trying several times, the couple decided to call the electrician to find out the issue with their port.

The electrician checked the socket and told the couple that he couldn’t find a current coming through, so he decided to pull out to see what is the problem and it turned out that it was a safe which had been built into their wall. He confirmed there was no current to the socket.

Darren said: “We tried to plug things into it. It’s perfectly placed for vacuuming the stairs, instead of having the cord running across the kitchen floor. People have just painted around it.”

“I was just fed up with it. We had an electrician come round to do some other bits and bobs and I asked him to have a look at it.”

”He prised it open, and it came away from the wall,”

”And what was revealed was – a secret safe. There was just dust, fluff and a dead spider in it,”

He posted the clip on social media and it has been watched thousands of times and one person claimed that they also had a suspicious socket in their home.

A third wrote: “I remember seeing those in the Argos catalogs in the 90’s. Always wanted one.”
