As their relationship progressed, the girlfriends also began planning their wedding that was set to take place on April 10, 2020.

“We were supposed to get married on 4.10.20, Good Friday, because nothing says ‘Happy Easter’ like a good old lesbian wedding,” Lindsey said according to BuzzFeed News.

Once the lockdown measures were imposed, however, the couple had to decide whether they would postpone their wedding or go through with it in their own unique way.

Not willing to wait to tie the knot any longer, the girlfriends decided to find an alternative solution, and, soon enough, their wedding planner delivered the plan of getting married at a drive-in theater.

After finding out that their local theater was closed, the couple decided to hold the ceremony at the one in Buda which remained open during the pandemic.

While planning the unusual wedding wasn’t easy, the lovers managed to rally their friends and family to witness their big day from the safety of their cars.

According to BuzzFeed News, some 85 cars attended the wedding whereas attendees remained in their vehicles, in self-isolation, throughout the entire event.

“We asked everybody to come in their PJs, and to decorate their cars, so our straight friends were putting rainbows on their cars,” Lindsey added.

As the couple explained, they had to trade the usual wedding catering for popcorn and champagne whereas an unexpected volume of unwanted guests – bugs – showed up at the event.

While not everything went as planned and the girlfriends weren’t able to hug their friends and family, they still believe that the wedding was a huge success.

“It was above and beyond anything we could’ve dreamed of. I’m so glad it happened the way it did. Our whole theme has been: we’re making some really tasty lemonade out of some really rotten lemons,” Lindsey concluded.
