After 18 long years of IVF, Mick and Ruth O’Malley finally welcomed their first kids – twin boys Brendan and Thomas.
To make it even extra special, their babies were born on Mother’s Day.
39-year-old Ruth from Scunthorpe said: “We feel truly blessed to have met them after waiting for such a long time.
“If you had told me that 18 years after I had been told I couldn’t conceive children naturally, I would be back in Scunthorpe General Hospital having twins – on Mother’s Day no less – I wouldn’t have believed you.”
Speaking about their 18-year journey to parenthood, the overjoyed mother said: “We went through so many rounds of IVF.
“In all except the last one, something would go wrong and we would have to start again. IVF was absolutely gruelling with all of the injections and hormones, but I would do it a million times to get to this result.”
Ruth continued: “And infertility is not often spoken about, even with friends and family, as people don’t want to upset you. We were ecstatic when we got the news that we were expecting twins. It was a miracle.”
She added: “When the doctors came to me on Mother’s Day and announced it was time for them to be born, I couldn’t believe it – as Mick said, you couldn’t write it.”
One internet user commented: “Awwwww! What a lovely story, they’re sooo sweet!”
Another wrote: “Aw so pleased for this family, mother’s day will be a birthday, a celebration of life never to be forgotten. Twins are so cute.”
Congratulations to this family! More blessings to come!
